Nick Fairly, the 13th overall selection in the 2011 NFL Draft, and a promising young tackle for the Lions defensive line was arrested twice since the 2011 season concluded. Having more arrests than seasons played is never a good statistic to have, and it’s fairly obvious that Fairley has a lot of growing up to do. However, despite what appears to be a disastrous off-season for the Lions defensive tackle can also be a great learning experience and humbling moment.
On Saturday, Fairley participated in a kickball event for 8-12 year-old children, and claims to have learned from his mistakes. Fairley acknowledged that he needs to surround himself with better people, but stated that he won’t be turning his back on his friends anytime soon. The Lions locker room has shown him support, but if he continues to rack up arrests, that support may not be around for much longer.
