Lions Come Up Short Against 49ers

For the second year in a row, the Lions and 49ers had a tough battle, and unfortunately the 49ers won for the second year in a row. No one will forget the 2011 game with the fight between Schwartz and Harbaugh that happened after the game due to an aggressive handshake from Harbaugh. This year, the two coaches shook hands without any drama, but as far as the Lions are concerned, the handshake meant nothing, it was the game that mattered.

If you are looking for an explanation behind the loss, it can be attributed to the Lions inability to cover or bring down Vernon Davis. Davis had two touchdowns, but it was the second touchdown that really showed the lack of discipline from the Lions secondary. Davis caught the ball and was heading towards the right sideline, but then he cut back and it was one after another, three Lions defenders were all caught over-pursuing Davis, and Vernon Davis was able to walk into the end zone for  an easy touchdown to seal the game.

Additionally, the 49ers were able to keep Calvin Johnson to only 8 receptions and 94 yards while limiting all the other targets to little or no offensive production.
