Game Preview: Detroit Lions @ Carolina Panthers

Following last week’s demolition of New York, Detroit travel to Carolina to face a side who managed a tough win against the Bucs.  The Panthers had to travel and were without starter Cam Newton, but Derek Anderson exceeded expectations to defeat Tampa Bay.

Now, Newton will be back under center and has already made an impact during the week’s press conferences.  Newton relied to Detroit’s no. 90 as ‘Donkey Kong Suh’.  According to the Oakland Press however, the Lions haven’t dwelled on this.

Detroit’s offensive line will have plenty to deal with tomorrow afternoon as the Carolina have a ferocious pass rush.  Led by Luke Kuechly, the Panthers’ D managed 3 sacks last week against Tampa.  Although Stafford showed quick feet last week, giving him time will be important to the Lions’ passing attack.

Detroit will be keen to establish a run game this week against the Panthers.  Last week the Lions only managed 76 yards on the ground.  It will be important to establish this during the season to give opposing defenses reasons to respect the run.

Score Prediction: Detroit Lions 24 – Carolina Panthers 20
