Detroit Lions secure their 2014 season playoff spot

By virtue of the Washington Redskins upsetting the Philadelphia Eagles, the Detroit Lions are playoff bound and have secured at least the no. 6 seed in the NFC.

There is still a lot to play for the Lions to play for, with the Lions having a mathematical chance to secure even the No. 1 seed.

As a Lions fan you can’t help but feel so great about this moment. With the franchise struggling for so many years, to gain their 2nd playoff spot in 4 seasons is something to really savour.

Years of ineptitude and disappointments, including total collapses in the past two years have left Lions fans wandering when good times would come. The Lions went 2-14 in the 2nd half of the last two seasons. They are 4-2 in the 2nd half of this season.

This will only be the Lions’ second playoff appearance since 2000, when they played the Washington Redskins. The Redskins were also the first team the Lions beat after the 2008 0-16 season. Is there something in the stars about the Redskins?

The Lions now travel to Chicago tomorrow to further strengthen their playoff seeding. The Lions could be helped further by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers upsetting the Green Bay Packers tomorrow.
